Our meeting will be in classroom E4 in E block from 9am to 1pm. If you have not attended before and don't want to get lost, please email asking for mobile numbers to be exchanged.
This is often a well attended location so I hope lots of people can attend again so we can make the most of this nice convenient location. Unfortunately the only problem with it is there are no tea and coffee facilities we can use so it will be a 'bring your own refreshments' event.

Kent Linux Group (KLUG) are a group of like minded linux, open source and computer enthusiasts . We meet once a month at one of a number of locations throughout Kent. At each meet we try to have a couple of organised talks, a general show and tell session as well as general chat and coffee.
We try to cater for all levels of user from those only just thinking about installing Linux their first distro, to the hardcore uber geek.
As well as these formal meetings we also have an IRC channel and mailing and a monthly pub meet in Maidstone. There are also a number of other meets and projects that happen as a result of friends made at KLUG.

Eat Drink and Talk Linux :)
Hello everyone, my name is Ken, I have used Windows 98, XP and more recently Vista which was installed on a new HP pc, after which I discovered that most if not all the software was installed on a trial basis only, I was somewhat peeved to say the least, and so I started looking around for alternatives and happened upon OpenSuse, purchased a DVD from The Linux Shop and installed it, had a few teething problems which I expected, but for the past month or so I have only used that OS and am very pleased with it, Open Office, Firebird, F Spot etc. are all excellent.
Unfortunately, our meeting venue for tomorrow's meeting is not available, and we have only had late notice of this. I am hoping that a meeting can be arranged at a local pub instead, so please follow our mailing list for the latest information on this. Apologies for late notice of this change, but it was unavoidable.
Our next meeting will be held again on the third Weds of the month, ie 21st October 2009 as below :-
We will be returning to Cookeys Net Cafe in Leominster. Cookeys is not just an Internet Cafe, but a Computer shop, and Art Gallery too.
HLUG is putting is putting together our final touches to our first event for Software Freedom Day. This is a global event, where community groups like ours try to explain and demonstrate that there is life after Windows and Macs, and the real true benefits of Open Source Software.
From 10 - 1 pm at Cookies Internet Cafe and PC Shop (on Black Swan Walk in between the High St and Somerfield) , in Leominster we will be providing expert advice, giving demos and showing how really quick & easy it is to install Linux on your average PC.
Hah! The clever Ubuntu 8.04 found and identified my wireless card immediately after I'd struggled for hours to find it with an updated XP system. In XP the card wasn't seen at all in a normal hardware search. Delving deeper by another programme found it but displayed a yellow ? meaning unknown. Intel's website searched my laptop and told me the card isn't an Intel product (oh yes it is). Eventually I discovered a clever detective program which searched out all of my hardware, confirming what Ububtu had discovered. Then I was able to download the necessary driver and made my wifi work in XP.
